Joseph Heroun

Principal & Creative Director

My methodology is built upon more than three decades of definitive creative and editorial leadership across preeminent national and regional media brands.

As a foundational contributor during the inception of Men's Health, I developed the singular visual identity and strategic brand packaging that defined the service journalism genre. My capacity for institutional stewardship is demonstrated by my three-decade involvement with Rodale, Inc., publisher of Men’s Health, concurrent with ten years as Art Director of The New Republic and more than twenty years with The Improper Bostonian.

My multi-faceted experience, encompassing senior creative roles at Sports Illustrated, Sportswear International, Mirabella, Newsweek, National Journal, Natural Health, Design News, Shape, Women’s Health, Men’s Fitness, Boston Magazine, and The Boston Globe, cultivated an unwavering, disciplined approach to visual hierarchy, organizational structure, and compelling narrative.

At the core of my practice is a fundamental principle: effective brand communication must grow from a clear, intentional story. Now, as Urban Denizen, I operate as the sole lead strategist and creative director on every project. I personally analyze complex communication challenges and then curate tactical teams of elite experts — precisely matched to the demands of the assignment — to execute the mission with high-stakes precision and craftsmanship.
